LED Door courtesy lights & Footwell Lights Installed

Hi All,

Well it didn't take long for me to start doing some mods to my RC. I was in awe of all the LED lighting that car has with the exception of the door courtesy lights & footwell lights, which is still incandescent.

I found in the owner's manual that both sets of lights take the same bulb, #194 . Luckily I had a bunch of LED "T10 5-smd (surface mount device) 5050 LED White Lights Bulbs for 194 168 W5w" left over when I installed these into my 65 Mustang Fastback custom.

I popped out the covers of each, very easy to do, and put in the new LED white bulbs. It gives a much cleaner look, IMO, than seeing yellow light from the incandescent bulbs, and is much more in tune with what Lexus has done with this car for technology.

LED lighting for the interior is amazing.

I have converted a few older vehicles over to full LED and while it wasn't cheap to change over everything, it sure was worth it... giving the whole vehicle a bit of a premium feel. Love it!

Thanks, and I agree with you 100% as it makes the car look so much better.

When I did that to my 65 Mustang the look was awesome. I custom made the instrument panel to have Autometer Phantom gauges, and put in the 194 LED (SMD) bulbs, and what a difference it made at night.

The only thing not LED in the Mustang is the glove box light. It is too much a PITA to tear everything out to get that one bulb. Even the headlights have been converted to be Bi-Xenon H4 HID, and no it does not blind anyone as they are properly aligned, by Ford.
I love the foot well lighting. These are easy mods that you have done that have a big impact.

Are you planning other mods to your RC350? You seem like you have a knack for it.

I sure am, but not as many as I did on my 2011 Camaro. I just put in a K&N air filter for more breath-ability, and when Lexus comes out with a Cold Air Intake (CAI) I'll put that on for 10% more horsepower.

The only other thing I plan on doing is to put on drilled and slotted rotors. They help with heat dissipation, and dry the rotors off when in the rain. Besides they just look bad ass.

I was getting my Xpel clear bra put on yesterday and there was a Tesla S parked out front that just got completed. When the Tesla Sales and Parts manager came to pick it up they were blown away with the RC350. I heard one of them say it was bad ass looking, especially the black on black and he wanted one. I told him to stand in line as they were flying out of the showroom as fast as they were coming in. :D
Can you tell that the clear bra is on the car? When I hear car bra I get a terrible image in my head.

It is really hard to tell it is there, which is what you are paying an excellent installer to do. It's not as shinny as the paint, but pretty close. The more time out in the sun the better it looks. There are basically no seams on the lower bumper that I can see as he got them really tight. Even on the mirrors I can only see one relief seam based on the contours of the mirror, and even then that is only under certain lighting situations and viewing angles.

Go to the Xpel website, and look up installers in your state. These are the ones that have gone through the rigorous training by Xpel, and are rated by the volume of installations done. They are rated from 1 to 6, with 6 being the highest volume dealers. XPEL PPF and Clear Bra Dealer Locator
Took off the cover of the light on the driver side and could not get my fingers around the bulb, close quarters with the bulb being deep into the holder. Does the bulb pull out or do you press on it and it pops out?

Hi BlueRC,

The bulb is pulled out. If you have a small needle nose pliers or if you have a rubber glove like working on the car that will work. The bulb is so small and in those tight spaces your fingers are slipping. Hope that helped.
It does look quite nice. Wish that last picture could be retaken just to tone down how bright it is and get a better look at it.

Since that pic was taken I replaced the entire door light assembly with one that had 10 built in LEDs. I'll try to get another pic on Friday and post it.
