Audio dropping

Hello!

I recently adopted an Atomic Silver RC350 F-Sport and love it.

A minor but annoying issue I'm having is audio randomly dropping when playing from an iPhone via USB port in the center console (iPod source on the menu). I can't seem to nail down a pattern or specific steps to reproduce the problem.

The vague error message 'iPod error' shows up on the info screen and the sound system goes quiet. The phone is a new iPhone 6 Plus that does not have issues streaming audio to other devices, just the Lexus seems to not be playing nicely. Does Lexus release software fixes and updates to the software?

Any help is much appreciated!

I have noticed people reporting these issues more and more with newer Lexus models, seems like something to do with the Lexus system itself, you might want to stop by your lexus dealer and see what they have to say/do about it.
Could it be a dodgy (non-genuine Apple) USB cable?

Good idea, I will try a different cable and see if that helps. As far as I know this cable is genuine Apple but it could be frayed/bent or something.
It might just be a software update since you have the new iPhone 6. I would contact your nearest dealer and see if they've heard of this being reported before or if you just need to reset the software.

Cheers!

I noticed this as well immediately after purchasing my f-sport. its not a cable issue because I have a genuine apple cable (iPhone 6). I've noticed that this has happened when the phone pairs or unpairs while playing audio through the cable. Now I mention both pairing and unpairing due to the fact that one day after work I was about ten minutes into my ride home when I noticed my Bluetooth was off. I proceeded to turn it on when in the process I got the IPOD ERROR message. The bigger question to me is why does the phone unpair randomly or sometimes only syncs audio and not phone???? I've passed the info over to a master tech that I know for Lexus and he told me he would toss it up their to the big guys to see what they say.
hope this helps

Best of luck! Keep us updated! Hopefully the problem is a simple fix.

Cheers
Maybe Sync fails to hold a bluetooth signal it receives? If there's some way to do a hard reset on the system... that could very well solve the problem or act as a temporary remedy till it acts up again.

Computer systems seem to respond well to resets.
Just an issue to be aware about. This may be part of your problem. If you have the Facebook app on your iPhone, it seems to be randomly ducking audio. Easily a 9dB difference. The only true way to get rid of it is to manually quit the program on your iPhone. It will do this connected either through the 1/8" jack or the Lightning port. Started doing this to me about 4 months ago and Facebook has yet to fix their app. Again, might be a little solution to your audio ducking issue. But be aware that as soon as you force quit Facebook, it will get quite loud again.
Since you're looking to rule out the cable as a possible issue, I think Apple stores replace your old cable for free, save yourself about $10-15 doing that.
me too

This happens on my RC350 every 5 minutes if I am connected via USB cable. It happens, but much less frequently, if I am connected via bluetooth. However, sound quality is better with the hardware connection!
i have notice that this happens less often when the Bluetooth is off. Turn it off then connect. it still happens but less often.
