Why do you have to get rid of it because of a side collision? Was it damaged? Why can't you put it back once your car is repaired?

I have a ARK grip exhaust for the RC350. I have only driven about 200 miles on it and had to take it off due to my car getting into a side collision. I purchased it at the ARK warehouse in Ontario CA for $1750.
