One potent RC-F will soon meet pikes peak!
Lexus has unveiled its entry for the 2015 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb, a light weight race car based on the new RC F.
The Japanese automaker will compete in the Time Attack class at this year’s event with a Lexus RC F GT concept, an all-new vehicle that builds on the legacy of the IS F CCS-R race cars that last competed at Pikes Peak in 2013.
The new Lexus race car will be piloted by 24 Hours of Le Mans winner Justin Bell, who will also aid in the development of the Lexus RC F GT concept. According to Lexus, the new race car weighs about 800 lbs less than the street version, tipping the scales at 3,130 lbs. It is powered by the same 5.0-liter V8 as the production model with over 467 hp and 390 lb-ft of torque in the race car, although Lexus didn’t say just how much more. The transmission is also the factory eight-speed as Lexus will be using the RC F GT concept as a way to experiment with prototype components, tuning ideas, settings and software development.
The 2015 Pikes Peak International Hill Climb will take place on Sunday, June 28.
“The continued evolution of the F brand remains a top priority for Lexus, and motorsports provide us an outstanding opportunity to develop more than concepts and components for F brand products,” said Jeff Bracken, group Vice President and General Manager Lexus Division. “Our niche line of high performance products are geared toward enthusiast drivers, and also make a very strong statement about Lexus’ engineering capabilities. Competition efforts like Pikes Peak help nurture a performance engineering culture and ideology that will have the greatest influence of future F brand products.”
