Exclamation Wind Tunnel Testing the RC-F, Lexus takes you Behind-The-Scenes

Lexus is all about refinement and in this all-new laboratory, the RC-F was “honed to perfection in the wind tunnel” as its Chief Engineer, Yukihiko Yaguchi proudly described.

If you're like me, a loyal follower of BEYOND Magazine(by Lexus), you'll already know this article is nothing short of amazing. Hopefully, as I have, you will too gain a greater sense of appreciation for the RC-F.

Quote:
Situated at the company’s research and development headquarters in Japan’s Aichi Prefecture, the lab’s custom-built wind tunnel is a cavernous, 22-meter-high, 260-meter-long loop. If it were stretched out and tipped on its end, it would be as tall as many of Tokyo’s highest skyscrapers.

The laboratory’s opening in March 2013 was a significant moment in Lexus’s history. It pitches the firm as a global automotive leader in the field of aerodynamics – the science of how airflow affects a car’s noise levels, dynamic characteristics and environmental specifications.

Very cool article. This is the best way to understand the aerodynamics of a vehicle. I like the videos where you get to see the smoke in the testing facility that shows you exactly how the air is moving over the vehicle.

Thanks for posting this up.

That wind tunnel and facility is truly amazing! Learn to appreciate Lexus that much more when you see a company like this put a lot into research and development.

Sometimes its hard to get a full understanding of how much research, development and testing goes into teach vehicle, especially when it is looking to be a performance oriented vehicle. These vehicles are pretty amazing feats of engineering when you really think about all that goes into them.
